Memorial Court is located, as the name suggests, close to
Lutyens’ First World War Memorial Gardens. Some demolition
of existing units was required before work could begin, while
the ground needed preparation works of CFA drilling and
some contiguous piling was required, as part of the site had
been used as a tip.
The development itself comprises 4,374sq m over three blocks
ranging in size from three- to six-storeys. Construction
comprises an insitu superstructure with a Sto insulated render
exterior in combination with terracotta tiles, zinc cladding,
shiplap iroko and granite.
These one- and two-bedroom apartments have a high
specification, with each apartment boasting a generous
balcony and dual aspect providing stunning light and views
over Dublin. Apartments are accessed by lifts and stair cores.
With the long term use of the building kept in mind
throughout the design, features of the building include wide
doors, wheelchair access with large turning circles, all designed
for ease of use in good sustainable development.
The development is due to be completed in January 2007,
with March 2007 projected as the opening date.
Architect for the project is Jim Barrett City Architect,
Dublin City Council.
